- The BC Fire Code requires annual inspection and testing of fire alarm systems, sprinklers, extinguishers, and emergency lighting, with some components on monthly or more frequent schedules. The strata corporation is responsible for keeping records - and insurers and municipal fire inspectors both ask for them.
- Our fire alarm system failed inspection - what now?
- Deficiencies should be corrected promptly - fire officials can issue orders, and an uncorrected deficiency is a serious liability if anything happens. Get the deficiency list into contractors’ hands quickly; reputable fire protection companies will quote corrections directly against the inspection report, which keeps proposals precise and comparable.
- When does a fire alarm panel need replacing rather than repairing?
- When parts are discontinued, the panel can’t support required devices, or recurring troubles can’t be reliably cleared. Older panels can often be replaced while reusing existing wiring and devices, which contains cost - a good proposal will distinguish what must change from what can stay.
